Our client EmmeTech, based in Darfo Boario Terme (BS), successfully created the lighting setup for a musical using the intelligent lighting system Twinkly PRO to design a 9 x 5 m scenic backdrop. The installation also featured Evolite Diamond 19X40Z moving heads and JB Systems Challenger Wash fixtures—both ideal for theatrical use thanks to their silent operation and versatility. The setup was completed with two Antari HZ-350 390 W hazers, delivering an immersive overall visual impact.
The challenge
Set in a setting inspired by the ecclesiastical world and performed by a youth theatre company, the show has already enjoyed great success. Four performances have been staged so far, with one new performance scheduled each month until April 2026. Although it’s a small-scale production, the quality of the technical setup proved essential to enhancing the show and meeting audience expectations.
This is why the team at EmmeTech—a company specialized in renting equipment for events and shows, especially in the theatrical field—was tasked with designing a backdrop capable of enhancing the scenic design and adding dynamism to the various scenes.
The solution
Michele Taccolini, owner of the company and Audio Effetti customer, chose to build the 9 x 5 m backdrop using 24 Twinkly PRO strings (each 25 meters long), managed by 4 Ethernet controllers.
“I first saw Twinkly PRO products at the Audio Effetti booth during MIR 2024,” Michele explains. “At the time, I didn’t think much of it... Then a few months later, I had this (somewhat crazy) idea to use them in a musical—they really make an impact.”
The programming was done using the Twinkly Pro app, customizing the available effects and creating new ones. The system was then fully integrated into the show’s lighting control via Art-Net protocol, allowing the LED lights to be perfectly synchronized with the rest of the scenic lighting.
In addition to the dynamic backdrop, Taccolini also used Evolite Diamond 19x40Z moving heads, mainly for front lighting and side lighting cuts, as well as for creative scenic effects.

Technology comparison and results achieved
Starting with the upcoming performances, the last remaining incandescent theatre lights will also be replaced with new Briteq BT-THEATRE 200TW projectors, which feature adjustable color temperature and have already proven effective during rehearsals.
To further enhance the lighting effects on stage, two compact and reliable Antari HZ-350 hazers were employed.
The JB Systems Challenger Wash units also received high praise and have been previously used by Michele in other projects: “In my opinion, they’re the best value-for-money purchase of 2024. Versatile, powerful enough, incredibly easy to use—and most importantly for theatre—extremely quiet. Perfect for low-budget productions that don’t want to compromise on quality.”
One additional challenge was transporting the backdrop easily between different theatres. The solution was to mount it on trusses at the top and bottom, dividing it into 3-meter sections that can be rolled up: “this way, we can move it easily without fully disassembling it.”

This case study highlights how the right technology, combined with creativity and field experience, can turn even a modest production into a professional and engaging visual performance.
