The recent video published on our blog about this product summed up its essence in the title: "LEM Commercial D‑Drive: much more than an amplifier". And that is exactly true. Calling the D‑Drive 1.8K4 simply an "amplifier" would really be reductive.
This device was in fact created to meet a need that is becoming more and more common in modern installations: having a compact device that does not just amplify, but manages, processes, routes, and controls the entire audio system. It is a device that integrates functions normally spread across multiple units: advanced DSP, internal 4 × 4 matrix, flexible routing between analog, AES/EBU, and Dante inputs, speaker presets, system presets, FIR filters, parametric and dynamic equalizers, compressors, expanders, delay up to 2000 ms per channel, and complete monitoring of operational status.
Added to all this is management through Webcon, a native web interface that lets you configure the entire device from any browser, without dedicated software, with multi-user access, open APIs, and remote control.
The features that make D-Drive 1.8K4-AE / Dante unique
What sets the D-Drive 1.8K4-AE / Dante apart from traditional amplifiers with integrated DSP is its design philosophy, created to centralize control of complex systems and reduce the need for additional hardware.
The amplification section uses a proprietary high-efficiency Class-D technology, capable of delivering 4 × 300 W at 8 ohms, 4 × 450 W at 4 ohms, and 2 × 900 W in bridged mode, with the ability to drive 70/100 V lines.
The heart of the system is the already mentioned 64-bit ADI Sharc DSP (24-bit / 96 kHz), which manages a complete 4 × 4 matrix and enables the advanced functions we mentioned above:
This architecture makes it possible to create dedicated loudspeaker presets for any speaker, with 80 internal memory slots for scenes and configurations: a huge advantage for integrators, who can eliminate external processors and simplify the entire system.
From a construction standpoint, selected audiophile-grade components were used, including high-performance NE5532 operational amplifiers, high-quality resistors and capacitors, top-tier converters (Cirrus Logic CS5361 ADC and Texas Instruments PCM4104 DAC), and selected driver chips of German manufacture.
From an operational point of view, on the other hand, the device is designed to work in "sensitive" environments: the thermally controlled ventilation ensures quiet and stable operation, adapting the fan speed to the actual operating conditions and the internal temperatures detected in real time for each channel. It is a valuable feature in conference rooms, corporate environments, and all installations where background noise must be kept to a minimum.
How easy is it to set up and use?
The D-Drive 1.8K4 was designed to be an operational tool: in practice, whoever uses it - installer, room technician, IT manager, or simple operator - can manage the entire audio system quickly, clearly, and without complex procedures.
The interface that defines it is Webcon, the browser-accessible control panel, designed to be immediate: you connect the device to the network, open the dedicated page by entering the device IP address (which can be read directly on the front LCD display, whether through automatic DHCP assignment or manual static IP), and immediately gain access to levels, routing, monitoring, presets, and channel status. Everything is organized logically through an interactive block diagram (DSP Flowchart): by clicking on the noise gate, PEQ, compressor, or delay icons, the interface jumps directly to the dedicated calibration screen, reducing setup times and simplifying later adjustments.
How does it integrate into the audio network and what connections does it offer?
The D-Drive1.8K4 was designed to fit into any modern audio infrastructure, regardless of whether it is analog, digital, or fully network-based. Its strength lies in its ability to adapt to the existing system without requiring modifications.
The first distinction concerns the network protocol: the AE model uses the integrated AES67 AoIP standard on an RJ45 Ethernet port (100BASE-TX standard), while the Dante version integrates four dedicated AoIP digital inputs. In both cases, the device becomes an intelligent node in the audio network, capable of receiving and distributing signals with minimal latency and perfect synchronization. This allows it to be connected directly to digital matrices, network mixers, centralized processors, or other amplifiers in the same series. In addition, Webcon provides a dedicated network transmitter (Network Audio Output configuration) to send processed DSP channels directly back to the AoIP network.
Alongside the network, the D-Drive1.8K4 also retains complete traditional connectivity: balanced analog inputs (4 inputs on Phoenix terminal blocks with a 20 kohm input impedance and maximum level of +19 dBu), 4 AES/EBU digital inputs (AES3) with LINK OUT port for signal relay, and power outputs available on secure Euroblock connectors.
This combination allows the device to be used in mixed systems, where part of the signal comes from the network and part from local sources. Each DSP input channel can be configured with a three-level backup structure: if the main AoIP stream (Dante/AES67) is interrupted, the system automatically switches to a local analog or AES/EBU digital input, ensuring operational continuity in conference rooms and multi-zone installations. The internal noise generator remains available for testing and calibration.
Integration is further simplified by browser-based control: once connected to the network, the device is immediately visible and configurable. Routing and matrix mixing between analog, AES3, and Dante/AES67 inputs take just a few clicks, without dedicated software and without complex procedures.

In professional installations, reliability is certainly not optional, but a fundamental requirement. In the event of anomalies, the amplifier intervenes selectively through a set of integrated next-generation safety features: advanced audio limiters, automatic HF signal inhibition to protect speaker tweeters, short-circuit and DC protection, BEMF, peak and inrush current limiters, automatic circuit breaker, and safety systems for power-supply overvoltage or undervoltage.
