From 3 to 12 July 2026, Perugia hosted a new edition of Umbria Jazz, with a programme that brought together international artists such as Sting, Jon Batiste and Zucchero. For the creation of the main stage, ATMO, a company specializing in the design and realization of setups for major live events, chose Trabes structures by Unirig, a brand distributed in Italy by Audio Effetti. This was a project in which safety, reliability and quick installation were central requirements to support a packed schedule of concerts and productions on the festival's main stage.
Behind the magic of a great concert lies a complex organizational and engineering machine, where the choice of partners and materials determines the success of the entire event. ATMO's decision to adopt Trabes structural solutions is a concrete example of how hands-on expertise combines with construction excellence.
Audio Effetti, as a specialized distributor for the pro AV sector, has always supported live professionals by providing technologies and structures capable of exceeding the strictest international safety standards. The setup of the main stage at Umbria Jazz 2026 was a true high-engineering project and not merely an assembly job for truss.
The challenge
Managing the main stage at Umbria Jazz means responding to a wide range of production needs. In fact, each international artist brought specific setup requirements, audio clusters, LED walls, trusses, lights and different scenic configurations.
Specifically, the ATMO team faced a multi-layered challenge due to:
- Time resistance: sustaining ten consecutive days of shows with no margin for error
- Dynamic adaptability: configuring and reconfiguring the stage setup quickly, between one soundcheck and the next
- Total safety: ensuring maximum structural stability and load-bearing capacity even in changing weather conditions
- Tight deadlines: drastically reducing unloading, assembly and rigging times to optimize logistics
The solution
To meet such demanding requirements, ATMO relied on the performance of the Trabes truss range, integrating the modular roof system with PVC tarpaulins into the setup.
The beating heart of the truss and the roof was built entirely with the aluminium truss F106R. We are talking about a rectangular-section structure measuring 67 × 106 cm with a black finish, equipped with a robust fork connection system. Its exceptional load capacity was ensured by strict construction specifications: Ø 60 × 5 mm main tubes, Ø 50 × 3 mm diagonals and Ø 50 × 4 mm verticals, extruded in EN AW 6082 T6 alloy.
The roof was suspended on perimeter walls made with multidirectional structures and lifted by 2-ton electric hoists, ensuring accurate positioning and total safety at any working height.
These were the main stage numbers:
- Aluminium structure dimensions: 21.80 m (width) × 17.35 m (depth)
- Total covering (PVC tarpaulin system): 21.80 m (width) × 21.20 m (depth)
- Tarpaulin overhang: 2.5 m on one side and 1.5 m on the other, for optimal protection of backstage and side control areas
The results
The real "wow effect" of this installation emerged from the operational efficiency achieved. Thanks to the engineering of the Trabes systems and ATMO's hands-on experience, on-site times were drastically cut, since the main RING structure was fully assembled in just 8 hours and the offset modular roof (including tensioning of the PVC tarpaulins) was completed in about 4 hours!
This peak efficiency allowed the production teams to move with unprecedented fluidity. Over the ten days of the festival, the stage changed configuration repeatedly and without issues, confirming the long-term reliability of the solutions distributed by Audio Effetti.
Being a partner in a technical infrastructure that supported a festival of this level is proof of how the synergy between outstanding design (Unirig), hands-on expertise (ATMO) and specialized distribution (Audio Effetti) can truly redefine safety and performance standards in major international live events.
On this topic, we report the comment from the head of ATMO's team: "Building the technical infrastructure for a festival like Umbria Jazz meant working closely with the production teams, meeting strict deadlines and ensuring that everything ran smoothly, even when the stage changed configuration from one concert to the next. In such a challenging context, the quality and reliability of the structure proved to be the perfect choice to meet the requests of industry professionals under the spotlight of an international audience."
