Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 is an advanced portable 6K digital film camera with a high resolution Super 35 HDR sensor of 6144 x 3456, dual native ISO, EF lens mount and direct recording to a USB-C drive which very closely reflects the characteristics of the model launched in 2019, but gains a variable-angle LCD screen, longer battery life and support for an optional electronic viewfinder.
The new model guarantees high quality cinematographic images with a more complete set of functions and, above all, a new software release, 7.9. which, among the various features, includes support for assisted focus adjustment via sliders and improved lens and autofocus performance. Together with the camera, DaVinci Resolve Studio is supplied as always for editing, color correction and post-production.
The first 6K series featured a 23.10 mm x 12.99 mm Super 35 HDR sensor and 6144 x 3456 pixel resolution, 16:9 format, which was also maintained on the new model. It ensures a dynamic range of 13 f/stop with double native ISO up to 25600. The layout of the controls, the ergonomics, the management of the functions is typical of a professional device intended for shooting videos; the additional controls are immediately accessible, unlike mirrorless cameras which hide them in complex sub-menus.
The lens mount is the well-known Canon EF, the one used for the Japanese company's full-frame lenses; however, thanks to the possibility of using adapter rings, the vast range of lenses to draw on expands further!
Blackmagic Design 6K shoots in all standard resolutions and frame rates, in HD, 4K DCI and of course 6K, where it reaches the full resolution of the sensor, at a frame rate of 50 fps, but can also reach 120 fps with a resolution of 2868 x 1512 pixels, still higher than Full HD. And, for those who want, you can also take still-pictures at 21.2 Mpixels!
This camcorder records standard open format files that don't need to be transcoded: 10-bit Apple ProRes in all formats up to 4K, or 12-bit Blackmagic RAW in all formats up to 6K. The files are compatible with all popular post-production software.
The G2 version is now equipped with the already familiar 5" FHD LCD touchscreen display, now with variable angle. Users can tilt it up or down to easily adapt to different shooting scenarios.
Another extremely important feature is the support of the optional Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF electronic viewfinder, also compatible with the 6K Pro. This EVF is based on a 1280 x 960 pixel OLED panel, is equipped with a diopter correction of ±4 and the possibility to rotate 70°. Additionally, it comes with 4 different eyecups that can easily fit the operator's right or left eye.
Let's not forget that the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K G2 integrates a memory slot for CFast and one for SD UHS II, as well as a USB-C expansion port for recording directly to an external SSD drive. You can thus use common SD cards for HD recordings, or high-performance UHS II or CFast cards for native 4K and 6K Blackmagic RAW. The HDMI output connector to an external display is full size, and therefore a specific cable is not required.
The battery life has also been improved. In fact, the new model uses the larger Sony NP-F570 for an autonomy of approximately 60 min recording in 6K RAW at 24 fps to CFast 2.0 cards. Just like the 6K Pro, it is compatible with the additional Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Battery Pro Grip to extend power time and improve grip.
