As part of the renovation works at the PalaMazzola in Taranto, one of the city’s most important sports venues, HIGHLIGHT S.r.l. (Bari) installed two high-brightness LED walls based on EGO Display EasySQUARE P3.9 panels, driven by a pair of Novastar VX600 Pro controllers. The two maxi screens, each measuring 4 × 2.5 metres, are among the key elements of the new AV system currently being completed, designed to enhance communication, visibility and visual impact during sports and institutional events.

PalaMazzola is the city’s main indoor sports arena, a multifunctional venue inaugurated in 2004 and named after Valentino Mazzola, the historic captain of the legendary Grande Torino football team.
With a seating capacity of up to 5,000 spectators, the arena hosts home matches for Taranto’s leading sports clubs — including men’s volleyball, women’s basketball and futsal — and is also used for concerts, cultural events and institutional gatherings.

In preparation for the 2026 Mediterranean Games, where it will host gymnastics, volleyball and basketball competitions, the venue is undergoing a major €4 million redevelopment project, including new technological systems and the implementation of a modern audio/video infrastructure.

Within this project, the AV component plays a strategic role: improving communication with the audience, ensuring visual standards suitable for international events and enhancing the overall spectator experience. To meet these requirements, HIGHLIGHT S.r.l. from Bari selected the EGO Display EasySQUARE P3.9 LED technology, an outdoor LED solution also ideal for indoor installations in large arenas where high brightness is required.

The challenge

The intervention at PalaMazzola required the installation of two large-format LED screens in an environment characterised by very intense sports lighting, long viewing distances and continuous use during different types of events.

As mentioned, the venue is designed to host national and international competitions as well as high-attendance events, making it essential to deploy a video system capable of delivering flawless readability from every seat in the stands while providing a visual impact aligned with the venue’s new technological standards.

The main challenge was therefore to identify an LED solution capable of combining high brightness, mechanical robustness, image quality and ease of maintenance, without compromising architectural integration and installation safety. The system also needed to withstand intensive use, provide excellent colour performance even under extremely strong lighting conditions and ensure operational continuity during sports, institutional and entertainment events.

The solution

To meet these requirements, HIGHLIGHT S.r.l. installed two 4 × 2.5 metre LED walls built with EGO Display EasySQUARE P3.9 panels, using both 500 × 500 mm and 1000 × 1000 mm cabinets.

The choice of an outdoor panel was not driven by weather resistance requirements, but by the need for significantly higher brightness compared to traditional indoor LED solutions: the EasySQUARE’s 5500 nits ensure perfectly readable images even when the sports lighting system operates at full intensity, a typical condition during basketball, volleyball and gymnastics competitions.

In addition to brightness, EasySQUARE P3.9 panels feature an extremely solid die-cast structure, excellent flatness and a front and rear maintenance system that simplifies servicing operations in a venue where access space is limited.

The 3840 Hz refresh rate ensures smooth, flicker-free images, essential for broadcast applications and dynamic content, while the high contrast ratio and colour uniformity contribute to an engaging visual performance.

The installation of the two LED walls was completed without any technical issues, despite differing from standard ground-stacked or flown configurations. Structural calculations were carried out and the relevant certifications for the frame and anchoring points were obtained, ensuring full compliance with current regulations.

Thanks to these features, the two LED walls were seamlessly integrated into the AV control system, becoming a central element of the new technological identity of PalaMazzola while providing a versatile platform both for scoreboards and match information as well as for advertising content display.

As front-end devices, two Novastar VX600 Pro all-in-one controllers were used, integrating video processing and control into a single unit.

The results

Once the renovation works currently underway are completed, the installation of the two EGO Display EasySQUARE P3.9 LED walls will significantly transform the visual experience inside the venue.

The very high brightness of the panels will ensure flawless readability even during the most demanding sporting events, where stage and broadcast lighting reach particularly high levels.

The image quality, combined with the structural solidity of the cabinets, will provide a reliable and versatile video platform suitable for continuous operation. The screens will become a key reference point for the venue’s internal communication, improving audience engagement and the overall perception of hosted events.

Integration with the AV control system will allow smooth and immediate content management, enabling the technical staff to quickly adapt communications according to the different requirements of each event. It is important to underline that the two LED walls are not only part of the AV control system, but also visualisation devices for sports data (scores, player names, statistics, etc.) managed through Bodet technology, a global leader in sports venue systems.

Comment from Fabio Fusillo, Project Manager at HIGHLIGHT S.r.l.: “the EasySQUARE P3.9 panels proved to be the perfect solution for a venue such as PalaMazzola. The high brightness and image quality ensure excellent visibility even when the sports lighting operates at maximum intensity. Their reliability allowed us to deliver an installation ready for intensive use.”
