Visual Productions RdmRelay2: control, diagnostics and automation for non-DMX loads

Visual Productions expands its range of control solutions with RdmRelay2, a 4-channel relay module that introduces a new approach to managing electrical loads in installed systems. RdmRelay2 allows non-DMX loads—such as power supplies, projectors, fans, motors, air-conditioning units, signs and specialist equipment—to be switched on, switched off and controlled as part of the same network used for lighting, AV and automation. Compatible with DMX512-A, RDM, Art-Net, sACN, OSC, UDP and TCP, it is an exceptionally flexible device that can be controlled from lighting consoles, architectural controllers, AV software, monitoring systems or custom applications.

The most interesting aspect of RdmRelay2 lies precisely here: the ability to control any “non-intelligent” device over the network, via software, turning—if you will—“dumb” equipment into “smart” devices managed from a single system. And all without relying on proprietary protocols.

Presented at InfoComm 2026, this new version introduces several important upgrades over the previous RdmRelay. The most significant is current monitoring on every channel: each relay (110–230 VAC, 12 A) is paired with a sensor that detects the connected load type and current draw in real time, providing valuable data for diagnostics, safety and preventive maintenance.

This means being able to identify immediately whether a device fails to power on, draws excessive current, has been disconnected or is operating outside its expected parameters—an important advantage for installers, technicians and system integrators.

The previous model was a “blind” DMX/RDM relay: it could send an ON/OFF command, but provided no feedback on what was actually happening at the load.

RdmRelay2 is quick to configure thanks to its integrated web interface, which allows the device to be set up without external software or complex procedures. Its DIN-rail format simplifies installation in electrical cabinets and equipment racks, making it well suited to permanent projects and professional infrastructure.

Thanks to its native API, the module can communicate with third-party systems, custom controllers, monitoring servers and automation platforms, expanding integration possibilities in more complex environments.

With low power consumption of just 5 W and key industry certifications, RdmRelay2 is designed for applications across entertainment, architectural lighting, broadcast, museums, commercial spaces and hospitality, where reliable control, continuous monitoring and intelligent load automation have become essential.
