The urban redevelopment project of Viale Ceccarini is transforming one of Riccione’s most iconic landmarks into an immersive and sustainable experience, thanks to an innovative and multifunctional lighting system powered by Visual Productions front-end technology. At the heart of the project lies the “Ceccarini Pole,” a scenic structure designed to combine dynamic lighting, special visual effects, and even sound diffusion. Conceived by Bordoni Group and programmed by Event Consulting Group, this advanced lighting control system has contributed to redefining the identity of the avenue.

In the heart of Riccione, Viale Ceccarini has always been a symbol of the city and one of its main commercial and tourist thoroughfares. The inauguration of the new section, acting as a link between the seafront and the shopping district, marked the beginning of a profound transformation that will continue in October, aiming to combine design, sustainability, and immersive technologies.

The challenge

The avenue, often referred to as the beating heart of the “green pearl of the Adriatic,” had begun to show signs of aging due to an outdated and inefficient lighting system. The previous installation not only consumed excessive amounts of energy but also featured a fixture design no longer in harmony with the renovated urban context. It lacked both visual coherence and true integration with the surrounding environment.

Furthermore, the absence of scenographic flexibility prevented the customization of atmospheres during events, holidays, or seasonal changes, leaving the avenue static and uninviting in the evening hours. Confronted with these shortcomings, a clear vision emerged: not merely replacing the lighting, but creating a system capable of transforming light into a tool to enhance the urban identity of this contemporary promenade offering residents and visitors an immersive, engaging, and modern experience.

The solution

As mentioned, the project was built around the “Ceccarini Pole,” a new urban element that integrates architectural design, technical functionality, and scenic impact. The first poles 5-meter-high structures made of galvanized steel, painted in burnished brass have already been installed in the side flowerbeds to preserve clean sightlines and harmonize with the avenue’s geometry.

Each pole features four arms with downward-facing LED fixtures, reducing light pollution while ensuring intense and uniform illumination. The LED technology, fully controlled by Visual Productions components such as CueCore3, B-Station, RDM Splitter, and RDM Node, allows for dynamic light management, with chromatic and rhythmic variations that transform the urban walk into a sequence of evocative visual impressions.

Thanks to Visual Productions technology, the poles come alive changing color, fading in and out, and creating a “breathing effect.”

In addition to the poles, Bordoni Group, a Riccione-based service company specializing in integrated audio-video-lighting and control systems, has installed “light fireflies” in the flowerbeds, pulsating and moving to create a captivating atmosphere.

Through the DMX protocol and the versatility of Visual Productions units, it has been possible to generate countless dynamic lighting scenarios to shape the atmosphere.

The results

The benefits of the redevelopment of Viale Ceccarini can be measured both in terms of energy efficiency and in the urban and social perception of the space. Yet, the true strength of this transformation lies in the system’s ability to reinvent the urban environment through light, sound, and movement.

As highlighted by Event Consulting Group, responsible for programming the devices:
“The Visual Productions system offered us maximum flexibility and precision in managing lighting scenarios. We were able to synchronize chromatic and sound performances with seasonal and cultural events, transforming the installation from simple illumination into an urban narrative language.”

The outcome is an avenue that not only respects the environment but also generates cultural and sensory value. The lights no longer simply accompany the walk they interpret and enrich it, redefining the role of public space in the evening hours.
