The Amerigo Vespucci World Tour came to a close in Genoa on 15 June 2025, marking the end of a 20-month journey that saw the iconic training ship of the Italian Navy visit five continents, 28 countries, and more than 30 ports. At the major stops along the route, within the “Villaggio Italia”, a video production system deployed by Rome-based rental company One Group and built entirely around Blackmagic Design technology ensured the production, management, and distribution of multimedia content for institutional events, diplomatic meetings, B2B activities, and live music performances. The compact design, versatility, and reliability of Blackmagic Design solutions enabled the team to operate effectively in logistically demanding environments, delivering consistent results in every part of the world.

The Amerigo Vespucci World Tour 2023–2025 was one of the most significant international initiatives dedicated to promoting Italian excellence around the world. Throughout its journey, the iconic sailing ship brought a rich programme of cultural, institutional, and business events to every port of call.

At some of the tour’s most important destinations—including Los Angeles, Tokyo, Mumbai, and Jeddah—the Villaggio Italia was established as a dedicated exhibition space showcasing Italian culture, industry, and lifestyle. Within this setting, video production played a central role: documenting events and diplomatic meetings, supporting B2B activities, enhancing institutional communications, and, of course, covering musical performances.

During the major stops of the tour, a video production system based entirely on Blackmagic Design technology ensured the creation, management, and distribution of multimedia content throughout the Villaggio Italia. Blackmagic Design’s broadcast solutions played a crucial role both on board the vessel and within the exhibition area, supporting the entire technical infrastructure for live production, content scheduling, and multimedia connectivity across the tour.

The complete technical infrastructure was designed and deployed by One Group of Rome, a company founded in 2002 and specialising in the provision of audio and video systems, structural staging, and scenic lighting solutions for events, live shows, and corporate conventions.

The challenge

Supporting a 20-month world tour aboard a historic sailing vessel presents operational and logistical challenges that are very different from those of a conventional production. Each stop came with its own set of conditions: limited space, tight setup schedules, mobility requirements, complex transportation logistics, and the need to adapt quickly to diverse cultural and infrastructural environments.

The video control room needed to be compact enough to be transported and deployed with ease, while remaining sufficiently comprehensive and reliable to manage high-profile institutional events, multi-camera productions, monitoring, recording, and signal distribution to displays, monitors, and presentation systems.

It was also essential to ensure continuous operation, even when faced with last-minute requests, while consistently maintaining a high production standard aligned with the international profile of the initiative.

The strict logistical and space constraints typical of both a large travelling event and a historic sailing ship made the use of compact, modular, reliable, and easily transportable broadcast systems indispensable.

The solution

Blackmagic Design products were selected for their combination of performance, modularity, and ease of transport.

At the heart of the system was the ATEM Constellation 4 M/E 4K, complemented by the ATEM Camera Control Panel, which provided centralised camera control and management.

On board the vessel, the mobile production system was housed in custom rack modules and flight cases, enabling video operations to be coordinated directly from the decks during conferences and live streaming events.

Within the Villaggio Italia, Blackmagic Design signal acquisition and distribution systems connected large-format displays, presentation areas, and exhibition spaces, supporting a packed schedule of events and activities.

Footage from backstage operations, life on board, and official ceremonies at ports around the world was then edited and finished using DaVinci Resolve Studio, ensuring fast turnaround times and consistently reliable results.

The results

The Blackmagic Design production system supported the entire Amerigo Vespucci World Tour without ever compromising the quality of the final output, despite the numerous operational and logistical challenges encountered along the way. The compact form factor of the equipment, its versatility, and the seamless integration between devices enabled the team to manage a wide variety of events through a stable and reliable production environment.

The ability to adapt quickly to the specific requirements of each stop, combined with the image quality delivered by the URSA Broadcast G2 cameras and the flexibility of the ATEM Constellation, made it possible to maintain continuous operations while fully meeting the expectations of the Italian Navy and the institutional partners involved in the project.

The Blackmagic infrastructure also contributed to the project's recognition within the Best Event Awards, thanks to the robustness of the production workflow and its ability to support a travelling event on a global scale.

As the technical team commented: “Despite the challenges we faced in different countries, particularly from a logistical perspective, the versatility, compactness, and practicality of Blackmagic products enabled us to deliver a high-quality final production without compromise, fully meeting every requirement—even last-minute requests.”
